One of the most important legal acts that governs international carriage of cargo by road is the Geneva Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Cargo by Road (CMR Convention). The provisions of the CMR Convention govern conclusion and execution of the contract for carriage of cargo; content of the consignment note; the carrier’s responsibility; procedure for lodging claims, reclamations and lawsuits regarding international carriages; limitation; instructions related to carriages when several carriers are operating, etc. Such issues as the carrier’s responsibility for non-delivery of the vehicle, damage caused during loading/unloading of the cargo, procedure of making the orders, etc. have to be settled in accordance with the national legal acts. It is recommended to discuss such issues in the contract for carriage.
